As reported by the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI), on June 25, 2019:

President Trump signed an Executive Order directing federal agencies to work together to facilitate the production of affordable housing. The Executive Order focuses on alleviating barriers that impede the production of affordable housing. The Executive Order creates a White House Council on Eliminating Barriers to Housing Development to do the following:

1. Quantify the impact of the lack of affordable housing on individuals and the economy and the impact of regulatory barriers on the production of affordable housing.

2. Review rules and regulations for their impact on impeding affordable housing development and make changes at the federal level to support the production of affordable housing.

3. Adjust federal programs to incentivize localities to reduce regulatory barriers or condition federal funding on such reductions of local impediments, such as zoning and land use restrictions.

4. Present to Congress legislative recommendations to alleviate the barriers to the production of affordable housing.
